I met Kathinka in Nürnberg around midsummer 1977, shortly before we both turned 30.
I was travelling to India with Colin Dorn, who knew Kathinka from when she lived in London. We stayed in her little flat for a while before moving on. I got to know Kathinka better over the next few years when I would visit Nürnberg or she would come to London. We were born only 16 days apart and were like sisters in many ways. Sometimes, like sisters, we would argue but we never parted company on bad terms. I always felt that I could go to Kathinka at any time and she would welcome me. I hope she felt the same way about me. She was a place of safety - a refuge when life was tough. She was a very big part of my life and we had many adventures together. I will always miss her. Kathinka rang me one night to ask if it was okay if some friends came to stay with me. I said 'Yes, when are they coming?'
She said, 'They're at Heathrow now and on they way to your house.'
An hour or so later, I had six skinheads in my small flat. They slept on the livingroom floor end to end like sardines.
They were very polite and friendly though.
